The full paper entitled, “Exploring Family Business Succession: The Unintended Consequences in Family Business Succession,” was accepted for presentation at the International Family Enterprise Research Academy (IFERA), to be held in University of Bergamo, Italy on 17-21 June 2019. This is in accordance with the conference theme “Feeding the fire of entrepreneurship: Theory and practice for the enterprising family.” IFERA is an annual international conference that gathers academics, researchers, and other family business key stakeholders to engage in a fruitful conference regarding family business research and practice. The authors of the full paper are Dr. Ginny Santiago, Gee Lobo, Allanne Mae Tiongco, and Kenneth Metrado. The research paper used Robert Merton’s theory of Unanticipated Consequences of Purposive Social Action and associated it to family business succession process. Qualitative research design was used. In-depth interview was conducted using open-ended questions. NVivo software was utilized to identify codes. The data was analyzed through thematic analysis.
